Efficiency and Effectiveness

Clarifying terms that we use a lot in Alphalink articles.

These definitions may not be strictly from the dictionary, but they are the sense in which we use these terms.

Efficiency

  • Doing something with the minimum amount of errors or resources.
  • Doing it well.

Effectiveness

  • Completing a task, achieving a goal.
  • Doing what needs to be done.

For example: we can be very efficient in getting from Lisbon to Porto, but we won’t be effective at all if we wanted to get to Faro.

It’s a simple dictionary definition, but it’s important to bear in mind when discussing and evaluating the best ways to manage projects.
